Sean Dyche’s Burnley lodged an £8m bid for the Forest man according to reports.
While it is of no surprise that a Premier League team has tabled a bid for Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga, what is surprising was that Burnley somehow believed they could prise away the Reds’ best striker for £8m, as reported by Sky Sports.
The 24-year-old scored 14 goals in 33 appearances last season as he successfully returned from a serious injury, and despite being contracted until 2021, Burnley clearly thought a bid of that nature would be enough to get him to Turf Moor.

Unsurprisingly, Forest rejected this immediately, as reported by the Daily Mail, and with good reason as well, as the offer is underwhelming to say the least and could seriously backfire on Burnley as Forest officials will not have been impressed with the low bid.
In essence, this would be like Forest bidding £8m for Michael Keane prior to his switch to Everton. There is absolutely no way the club would accept an offer so low for someone so vital to them, and at 24, Assombalonga’s potential could see him become a prolific Premier League forward.
If Assombalonga is to go anywhere, it will cost clubs at least £15m when you take into account his age, his potential, his contract, his current ability, and his importance on Trentside, with Assombalonga the only player in the Forest team deemed irreplaceable.
With this in mind, for Burnley to believe an £8m offer would be accepted is a surprise, and certainly won’t help them winning any friends at The City Ground anytime soon – who had every right to knock back this derogatory bid.
