Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest would have invested a staggering 50 million euros in signing Djibril Sow from Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, Blick reporter Andreas Boni explains, while handing him a £100,000-a-week contract.
Now, this does not mean that Remo Freuler’s fellow Swiss international is going to knock Morgan Gibbs-White off top spot, replacing the former Wolves youngster as Forest’s most expensive all-time acquisition if he arrives before next week’s deadline.
An initial £17 million of that eventual 50 million euro investment would go straight into Frankfurt’s pocket. Plus a further £5 million in bonuses.
Sow, however, would get a long-term contract at the City Ground. One that would see the former Borussia Monchengladbach man take home £100,000-a-week, becoming one of Nottingham Forest’s top earners.
Add all those figures together and you get the magic 50.
Will Nottingham Forest still sign Frankfurt’s Djibril Sow?
“Nottingham Forest has offered a 50 million euro package for Sow. It’s about 20 million euros for the transfer, five million in bonuses and then, of course, his wages,” Boni explains.
“You gave him a four-year contract and, of course, that earns him over six million per year. That’s how you get to 50 million euros.
“But it also shows what a great development Sow has enjoyed at Frankfurt, where he was a Europa League winner. This is the crazy TV money you get in England.
“Nottingham Forest will receive over 200 million and already has spent 150 million on transfers.”
Steve Cooper’s play-off winners have signed no fewer than 16 new players since defeating Huddersfield Town at Wembley three months ago. Arrivals 17 and 18 are close, deals for free-agents Djibril Sidibe and Serge Aurier close to completion.
As things stand, the energetic, reliable Sow seems likely to stay at Frankfurt for another few months. According to talkSPORT, The Eagles rejected Nottingham Forest’s £17 million offer earlier in August. The two-time European champions do not appear to have returned with an improved offer.
At least, not yet. Time is still on their side.
