Jorge Grant and Tyler Walker failed to impress as the Stags went down 1-0 to the Magpies in the League Two Nottinghamshire derby.
Notts County have emerged triumphant from Saturday’s League Two derby with Mansfield Town in a game that saw four Nottingham Forest loanees start across both teams.
The Stags fielded goalkeeper Jordan Smith and attacking players Tyler Walker and Jorge Grant from the off – the latter formerly a fan favourite at Meadow Lane, having impressed on loan in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
County, meanwhile, had a Reds loanee of their own in Virgil Gomis, a 19-year-old striker who has impressed Forest’s Under 23s this term and spent a month on loan at National League outfit Braintree earlier in the campaign.
The Magpies had not beaten their Nottinghamshire rivals in the league for 13 years but Neal Ardley’s resurgent troops went on to make it seven points from their last three games thanks to Craig Mackail-Smith’s 19th-minute goal in a 1-0 win.
Despite being in the running for automatic promotion, Mansfield performed poorly, with the front line especially having a day to forget as they didn’t record a single shot on target (BBC Sport).
Given Walker and Grant had scored 24 goals and registered five assists in all competitions for Mansfield this term (Walker’s Transfermarkt and Grant’s Transfermarkt stat pages), they will be disappointed not to have even truly troubled Ryan Schofield.
