Nottingham Forest pulled off something of a coup yesterday with the signing of former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner on a free transfer.

The Denmark international arrives at the City Ground on a two-year deal and will be hoping to help Philippe Montanier’s side toward a Championship promotion push this season.

Of course Bendtner was needed. Forest let Tyler Walker go out on loan during the transfer window whilst they also allowed Lars Veldwijk and Dexter Blackstock leave for nothing.

It left the club with just Apostolos Vellios and Britt Assombalonga as their striking options.

Bendtner will now be tasked with adding goals to the group, although Assombalonga certainly doesn’t struggle in that area of the game.

The Dane was asked about his new potential Forest strike partner during his media conference yesterday.

This is what he had to say, as reported by the Nottingham Post:

“I’ve heard great things about him.

“I haven’t had the chance to train with him yet because he had a little knock and has been out for a few days. But he’s done really well.

“He’s a force, a really big guy, a strong guy, very fast. The combination can be very good.”

There is no doubt that Assombalonga knows how to score goals at this level and it will be interesting if Bendtner, fresh from a fruitless time with German side VfL Wolfsburg, can also find the net regularly at this level.

But it promises to be an interesting attacking duo for Forest in the weeks to come.
