The Nottingham Forest midfielder was expected to become Sheffield United’s fourth summer signing.

Nottingham Forest have named Ben Osborn in their starting XI for Tuesday night’s friendly against Olympiacos in Greece, despite speculation that he was set to join Sheffield United.

The Star reported on Sunday that Osborn was poised to become United’s fourth summer signing, but with no developments since then, that title has now been assumed by Ravel Morrison.

The newspaper had claimed that Osborn, whose Nottingham Forest contract expires in 11 months’ time, was attracted by the prospect of playing Premier League football with Sheffield United.

And there is little to suggest that is not still the case, with Osborn seemingly covering for a string of absent Forest midfielders against the Greek giants.

Although, Osborn’s presence on the continent implies that a transfer to Bramall Lane is certainly not imminent.

Meanwhile, another rumoured Sheffield United target, Neal Maupay, was pictured back in training with Brentford on Tuesday morning.

Nevertheless, Maupay, who missed the start of the Bees’ pre-season campaign after returning to his native France, is still expected to move on ahead of next month’s transfer deadline.

Whether or not he joins the Nottingham Forest midfielder in Sheffield, though, remains to be seen, with Brighton now said to be keen.
