Martin O’Neill’s charges weren’t at their best against Swansea last time out but won 2-1 and remain in the hunt for a Championship playoff place.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Matty Cash has urged the club’s fanbase not to succumb to pessimism, hitting out at those saying “negative things” about the team’s performances and calling for positivity.

The Reds are currently ninth in the Championship table with seven league games left to play, but just three points separate them from sixth-placed Aston Villa, making the playoffs very much still within reach.

However, Forest’s form has been up and down over the past few months, with such impressive results as the 1-0 win over bitter rivals Derby County offset by lacklustre outcomes like the 1-1 draw at relegation-battling Ipswich Town.

Martin O’Neill’s charges go into Saturday’s league trip to Rotherham United on the back of a 2-1 win over Swansea City at the City Ground which was achieved despite the visitors boasting close to 70 percent possession, and won after coming from behind thanks to two late headers (Sky Sports).

“You have got to be positive,” Cash told the official Forest website. “There will obviously be people out there who are negative and don’t think we will do it, but we are the ones who can make it happen and the fans are the ones who will help us along the way.

“We have got to be positive as we are so close, there is no point in being negative now. People are saying negative things about our performances but we are picking up points and that is all that you need to do.”

Forest boast three wins, one draw and two defeats from their last six games, and will be hoping to edge themselves into the playoffs amid a fierce battle with multiple other teams – 12th-placed Hull City are themselves just six points adrift of the top six.
