Nottingham Forest have reportedly seen a £6 million bid for SC Braga goalkeeper Matheus turned down by the Portuguese club.

That’s according to Sport Italia, who have claimed that Braga want more money from Nottingham Forest for their goalkeeper and have turned down their initial offer.

It remains to be seen whether Forest, under Steve Cooper, will return with another bid for the goalkeeper, who has spent nine years in Portugal with Braga.

Matheus’ potential arrival will see him compete with Wayne Hennessy for the spot between the sticks at the City Ground, as things stand at the moment.

After making 293 appearances for the Portuguese side, it remains to be seen if the 31-year-old would be happy to come to the East Midlands and potentially warm the bench.

Dean Henderson still a target for Nottingham Forest

Dean Henderson, who spent the season on loan at Forest from Manchester United, remains the club’s number one choice to replace Keylor Navas and be the club’s new number one goalkeeper.

Henderson was number one at the beginning of last season but an injury put an end to his run in the side and that eventually lead Forest to bring in Navas, formerly of PSG and Real Madrid, and he turned out to be a hit with the fans at the City Ground.

The Henderson deal is reportedly stalling as Manchester United mull over what to do next with their goalkeeper search ongoing.

They are rumoured to be ‘close‘ to an agreement with Inter Milan to sign Andre Onana for around £45 million.

Until that situation is resolved, Henderson looks set to remain at United with the Old Trafford club beginning their pre-season tomorrow and Henderson is likely to start in goal.
