Nottingham Forest reportedly were interested in snapping up Sheffield Wednesday forward Jordan Rhodes on deadline day.

According to the Sheffield Star, Nottingham Forest made an enquiry to sign Jordan Rhodes from Sheffield Wednesday last month – but they made the right call not forcing through a deal.

Forest were highly active in deadline day, with a host of new arrivals signing up, but Rhodes’ addition would have been a pointless one.

Although Aitor Karanka won’t admit it, Forest’s chances of making the play offs already look to be over.

The Reds are 16 points away from the top six, and they surely don’t have enough games left to make up that gap.

Forest, therefore, were better off avoiding a move for Rhodes – who would have been an expensive addition.

Karanka’s side asked about taking the Scottish international on loan, but Rhodes is on a hefty contract at Wednesday, and there would have been little point for Forest to expend so much money shouldering his salary.

Forest have the perfect opportunity to give Ben Brereton a run of games in his favoured striking position now, and they should take it.

The pressure is relatively low at the City Ground right now, with a mid-table finish likely, and blocking Brereton’s chances by bringing in Rhodes would have made little sense, as a result.
