Northern Ireland international winger Jamie Ward has been discussing his time at Burton Albion so far with the Burton Mail – since making a summer move from Nottingham Forest.

Ward was a real coup from Forest when they snapped him up from rivals Derby County on a free transfer last summer.

But his debut season at the City Ground did not go quite as expected.

He struggled to find the net regularly for the club, managing just three goals in 34 games last term. Despite scoring once for the club this season he was not in the plans of new manager Philippe Montanier – who sanctioned his loan move to the Pirelli Stadium.

Ward, who represented Northern Ireland at the European Championships this summer, has been enjoying himself with the Brewers and scored his first goal for the club this week.

Speaking to the Burton Mail he stated:

“I want to play games and be known for playing football rather than sitting on the bench and taking money.

“Obviously it’s always nice to score a goal but the priority is the team winning and getting something out of the game. We got something – maybe we should have had more but it’s one of those things.

“We move on to Saturday now.”

Ward’s time at Forest seems to be up but he is helping Burton Albion surpass expectations in the Championship this season – following their promotion from League One.

Nottingham Forest will hope they don’t rue letting Ward go.
