Nottingham Forest youngster Alex Iacovitti has been commenting on his start to life at loan club Mansfield Town and his hopes of emulating former Forest star Oliver Burke’s breakthrough.

At the start of the season it appeared that Scotland under-21 international Iacovitti would be playing a part in the Forest first-team for the upcoming campaign.

He played in the opening two games of the season for Forest, but was given the run-around at Brighton in a 3-0 loss in his second game and was then loaned out to Mansfield Town later in the month.

But the 19-year-old left-back is still highly thought of at Forest and is sure he can make it at the City Ground.

Speaking to the Sportinglife this week he commented:

“He’s one of my really good pals. He’s done really, really well with Scotland and Forest and he took his chances when he had to, and look at him now, he’s flying.

“It hasn’t surprised me. He has always been a great player, it was just a matter of time when people came in for him, but he has taken his chance really, really well.

“It’s different positions but what he’s done, it can happen to anybody. You just have to get a run of games.

“It’s different (at Mansfield), it’s a lot more direct. The experienced pros are helping me out so it’s a great league to learn in. There’s quite a few decent players in League Two as well but it’s a bit more direct.

“If I can handle that, hopefully I can go back to Forest and knock on the door and take it from there.”

Forest fans will of course be hoping they have such a talent on their hands once again – but will also be wary.

Burke was impressive for Forest, but this summer he exited – joining Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for a big transfer fee.

If Iacovitti is to become a hit at Forest, fans at the club will hope he sticks around a little longer.
