Goncalo Paciencia is Porto born and bred. Can Nottingham Forest really convince him to quit?

Nottingham Forest were linked over the weekend with a move for striker Goncalo Paciencia.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo report Forest are keen on signing the forward, who spent part of last season out on loan at Vitoria Setubal.

Despite their interest in the £6.1 million valued forward, Forest face an uphill battle to convince him to join – permanently at least.

This is due to Paciencia’s dad Domingos being a Porto club legend, winning seven league titles with the club as a player in the late 80s and 90s.

Goncalo Paciencia, 23, said earlier this year he believes he is only just getting started at Porto and feels he has so much more to give.

Paciencia was called into Portugal’s international squad last year and made his debut.

He told Porto’s club website just last month after helping Porto win the title: “It’s my first time, and just being here is a reason for me to be proud. But I don’t want to stop here, I want to win a lot more for this club.”

Paciencia played eight games for Porto in their title success and while he has accomplished his dream, he believes he still has a lot more to offer.

For him to suddenly walk away to join Forest would be quite the U-turn, and if they do pull off a move, it will look even more impressive.
