The Greece international was signed by Philippe Montanier in 2016 but hasn’t had a fruitful time at the City Ground.

Apostolos Vellios has hardly pulled up any trees at Nottingham Forest since joining the Championship side from Greek club Iraklis in the summer of 2016.

The 27-year-old was Philippe Montanier’s first recruit at the City Ground and initially featured plentifully but from Boxing Day 2016 onwards he began spending more time on the bench or out of the squad altogether.

Vellios didn’t fare much better under Mark Warburton, who succeeded Montanier as Reds manager and, heading towards the January 2018 transfer window, he was told he was free to leave the club, as reported by The Post.

Aitor Karanka’s arrival earned him a stay of reprieve as he wanted to see the players for himself but he failed to impress the Spaniard and, just before the closure of the summer 2018 transfer window, he was sent out on loan to Waasland-Beveren.

Unfortunately for Vellios, things haven’t quite worked out in Belgium either, as he has scored only four goals in 16 Jupiler Pro League games this season for the club and has started only one game since early November.

Indeed, in an article published on Sport/Foot Magazine’s website, it has been reported that Waasland-Beveren have internally admitted that mistakes were made last summer in the recruiting process, with Vellios’ acquisition being one of them.

It doesn’t look like Vellios’ loan club will be particularly keen on buying him, and with Forest also having found little use for him during his time in the Garibaldi red, it looks as though he will be upping sticks once again come the summer.
