Reds boss Martin O’Neill admitted the Latics are keen on the defender but some fans urged the club not to make a “terrible move”.
Nottingham Forest manager Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Wigan Athletic are interested in signing defender Danny Fox.
The 32-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has made 127 appearances for the Reds since his initial loan move from Southampton in January 2014.
Fox then joined Forest permanently that summer after his Saints contract came to an end and signed a new one-year contract in April 2018.
According to a report from The Sun (23/1; page 51), Wigan are hoping to pay £200,000 to complete a deal for Fox, who himself reportedly happy to leave provided he is offered a long-term contract by the Latics.
O’Neill corroborated the report when addressing the press in his pre-match conference ahead of Saturday’s Championship home clash against, ironically, Wigan, with a six-word statement as reported by BBC Sport: “There is genuine interest from Wigan.”

Both Forest and Wigan go into the game at the City Ground out of form, with Paul Cook’s charges having won just once in their past 10 games and the Tricky Trees claiming just one victory from their past nine encounters.
