Nottingham Forest have lost further ground on their quest to reach the Championship playoffs as they were held to a 0-0 draw away at Preston North End on Saturday afternoon.

In a cagey game with few clear-cut chances, Lilywhites stopper Declan Rudd denied Forest striker Lewis Grabban, who was through on goal just before half-time, with a deft fingertip save.

Forest goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon then also pulled off a smart save to thwart a Brad Potts shot, while two Reds efforts did go into the back of the net but were ruled out.

Grabban saw his disallowed when he strayed offside from Daryl Murphy’s header after 29 minutes, while Joe Lolley had the ball in the net for the visitors but it was ruled out for a foul by Ryan Yates.

On the positive side, Forest did keep at bay a side that had beaten Norwich City earlier in the week and Martin O’Neill did claim his first clean sheet as Reds manager, but post-match reaction on social media was mixed.
