Samba Sow has missed two Championship games in a row – and Sabri Lamouchi’s Nottingham Forest have lost them both.
Boos rang out around the City Ground on Wednesday night with Nottingham Forest rolling back the years at home to Hull City – and not in a good way.
After a shock defeat to Wigan Athletic on Sunday, Forest have now suffered successive defeats as they went down 2-1 at home to Grant McCann’s Tigers, producing the kind of slack, error-strewn performance that they appeared to have moved beyond in the Sabri Lamouchi era.
Goals from Josh Magennis and Jarrod Bowen put Hull two to the good and, despite a Matty Cash consolation and a red card for Magennis, Forest failed to grab even a point out of a game that they would, or perhaps should, have expected to win.
And it is no coincidence that Forest have lost at home for the first time since the opening day with summer signing Samba Sow out of the starting XI.
The giant midfielder has become absolutely integral to Forest’s plans since joining from Dinamo Moscow, averaging 4.2 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game. Without Sow in the team (he is absent through a hamstring injury) the two-time European champions look worryingly lightweight.
No wonder the fans are counting down the days until his blessed return.
