The Olympiacos player will spend time with Forest over the coming days, with the club possibly looking to take the midfielder on loan.

Nottingham Forest fans would’ve been taken aback recently following the news that Olympiacos midfielder Andreas Bouchalakis will be joining the Reds on trial for a few days, as reported by BBC Sport, as it may have brought back some unpleasant memories.

Forest have had their fingers burned by players from Olympiacos before, with pretty much every player from the Greek champions that has signed for the Reds proving to be a flop – more often than not, an expensive one at that as well.

Matt Derbyshire, Djamel Abdoun, Rafik Djebbour and most recently Pajtim Kasami have all signed for Forest from Olympiacos in recent years, and at best, some of those names have been average – at worst, a complete waste of time and resources.

Abdoun did his best to be the Championship’s Mario Balotelli in regards to his demeanour, Derbyshire eventually proved he could be an ok back up striker but started out like he’d won a competition to play for the club, Djebbour was a disaster with one goal in eight appearances as a striker, while Kasami was infuriatingly inconsistent.

With that in mind, it’s understandable why some fans are sceptical of 24-year-old Bouchalakis before he’s even kicked a ball in anger, especially as he’s largely struggled to nail down a spot in the Olympiacos side in recent years – and fans have expressed as such.

However, as one fan mentioned, it’s unfair to judge the player before he’s been given a chance, and he sounds like he could be a brilliant fit for Forest and manager Mark Warburton given his playing style – an uncompromising, physical midfielder who can pass – but given previous experiences, it’s fully understandable why Forest fans will be reserving judgement.
