A number of Nottingham Forest fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports emerging from the Daily Mirror over the weekend that suggested that Martin O’Neill is chasing a move for West Ham youngster Reece Oxford.

Oxford appears to be on his way out of the London Stadium this month having so far failed to break into Manuel Pellegrini’s plans. The Mirror reports that he is set to be offered a number of options.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal, Everton and Borussia Monchengladbach are all tracking the 20-year-old, but Forest could look to try and jump to the front of the queue with an £8 million bid for the starlet.

There is clearly an element of risk attached to a potential deal with Oxford hardly featuring for the first-team in recent years. But if O’Neill can get the best out of the defender, he has the potential to be a remarkable signing, especially at that price.

Many of the Forest fans on social media appear to have similar feelings about the reports. Plenty believe that he would be an amazing signing for the Championship side, but they are sceptical about how likely a move is.

£8 million remains a big spend for most second tier clubs – particularly when that fee is going on a player who has not played any senior football this season – and some cannot see why he would pick Forest over one of his other admirers.

But while the fans are not holding their breath at this stage, it is clear that it would be an incredibly popular signing if O’Neill and the Forest hierarchy could pull it off.
