Ben Osborn received a fair amount of praise for his performance in Nottingham Forest’s Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea.
Nottingham Forest would be forgiven for feeling that they had little to be positive about following their 5-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday night. While Mark Warburton’s men were almost certainly on a hiding to nothing against a Blues side that included the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and Michy Batshuayi, the scoreline would have left the Championship side feeling extremely deflated.

The Blues went 2-0 up inside the first 20 minutes thanks to goals from Kenedy and Batshuayi. But Warburton may have perhaps felt heading into the final minutes of the first-half that if his side could prevent the scoreline getting worse before the interval, the complexion of the game could potentially change if Forest grab the third goal.
Unfortunately, Charly Musonda made the score 3-0 just five minutes before half-time to put the tie beyond doubt.

The second-half saw Batshuayi complete his hat-trick before Tendayi Darikwa gave the Forest fans something to cheer in stoppage-time.
While it was a difficult night for the second tier side, one Forest player whose performance received plenty of praise – and some criticism – was midfielder Ben Osborn, who was arguably one of their better players.

Osborn was industrious throughout the game. But while that attribute appears to be the reason that some have given him credit, others have questioned how much that actually benefits the team.
