Nottingham Forest sold Oliver Burke to RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window.
Oliver Burke’s latest comments to the Guardian about Nottingham Forest not appearing to want to keep him, have caused great frustration from supporters of the Midlands club on social media website Twitter.
Forest fans have been frustrated with the way that Fawaz Al-Hasawi has run the club, and Burke’s latest interview has done little to help the owner’s popularity.
Burke said: “To be honest, I didn’t feel they really wanted to keep me. I didn’t feel I was the main priority to be kept. I feel they were very happy to take the money and let me go. A lot of people are saying my agent [Craig Mather] forced the deal for the money but it was never forced. It just happened because Forest had accepted everything that came at them, even from other clubs. For my part, I knew it was the right time to leave if that’s what was happening.
“I thought they could have at least pulled me aside and said: ‘Look, this is going on,’ and had a bit of a chat. I didn’t know a lot of it and in a way the less I knew the better so that I could concentrate on my football. What we did know was they were accepting anything over a certain amount. In the end, making the decision was not difficult.”
Al-Hasawi’s ownership has been criticised before due to a supposed lack of investment, and a high turnover of managers.
Forest do not appear to have moved forward during Al-Hasawi’s time at the helm, and Burke’s departure was a major disappointment this summer.
Burke was one of Forest’s most popular and talented players, and their lack of fight to keep him, after RB Leipzig made a £13 million offer has annoyed supporters.
Burke has made an impressive start in Germany, and he has already opened his account for Leipzig.
The youngster’s reputation is rapidly growing, and he is currently with Scotland’s squad – who are due to face Lithuania in World Cup qualifying at the weekend.
