Nottingham Forest suffered a costly defeat at home to Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

Many Nottingham Forest fans on Twitter were left unimpressed with referee Mike Dean during their side’s 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
In the game, Forest took an early lead at the City Ground through Jack Colback’s shot/cross before John McGinn’s quickfire double, including a superb long-range effort put the away team in the driving seat.
The game was littered with fouls and chances, with defender Kortney Hause scoring Villa’s third of the game following a perfectly weighted cross by Conor Hourihane from a set-piece situation in the second half.
But the Forest fans on Twitter weren’t too pleased with the ‘Mike Dean show’, with one supporter stating that he ‘spoilt’ the match and another claimed he was ‘dreadful’.
One incident that was pointed out was Forest’s disallowed goal when the score was 2-1. Minutes into the second half, Martin O’Neill’s side were awarded a corner with Yohan Benalouane heading home.
But Dean ruled out that decision because he felt that Benalouane, who had two hands on opposition defender Kortney Hause, fouled and pushed his player whilst trying to win the header.
Here is a selection of Forest fans reacting on Twitter to Dean’s refereeing performance during the game against Villa:
Nonetheless, the game in itself had a big bearing on the race for promotion because it now means that Villa are two points outside of the top-six after leapfrogging O’Neill’s side in the table.
As for Forest, they are still in it, three points behind sixth-placed Derby County as a trip to bottom-of-the-table Ipswich Town awaits them at the weekend.
