Nottingham Forest suffered a third defeat in a row as they lost 2-1 to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.
Gary Brazil’s men had 5-1 to Norwich City and 3-2 to Fulham, meaning they were looking to avoid a third loss in a week when they host Wednesday.
Forest a bright start as Ben Brereton went through on goal only to be brought down by Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, and after the shot-stopper was only booked, he saved Ross McCormack’s subsequent penalty.
Wednesday went down the other end and opened the scoring through Almen Abdi’s stunning volley, and Fernando Forestieri pulled off a wonder goal of his own, teeing himself up for a stunning acrobatic effort to make it 2-0 in the second half.
Forest did hit back when Brereton chased down a lost cause to rob Vincent Sasso, setting up Ben Osborn to reduce the arrears, but Wednesday held on the for the win.
A third straight defeat was a blow for Forest, but the performance of striker Brereton again summed up why the 17-year-old is being targeted by some of the Premier League’s top clubs.

Formerly of Manchester United and Stoke City, Brereton has found the net twice this season, and the teenager looks destined for a huge future after another outstanding display.
After causing Wednesday issues throughout, Forest fans took to Twitter to hail Brereton for his performance, with many singling him out as the shining light in a disappointing display, but are concerned that owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi will sell Brereton this summer, just as he did with Karl Darlow, Jamaal Lascelles and Oliver Burke.
