Nottingham Forest fans are fearing the worst after Assombalonga was left out of their matchday squad on Friday night
Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga did not feature against Brighton
Forest striker Britt Assombalonga was inexplicably left out of their matchday squad to face Brighton on Friday, leading to questions about whether the club may be about to cash in on one of their most prized assets.
The former Peterborough striker is Forest’s record signing, joining the Reds for £5 million back in 2014, surpassing previous record holder Pierre van Hooijdonk.
Assombalonga recently returned to the Forest first-team fold following an extensive lay-off with a serious knee injury, one that has kept him out for over a year.
Assombalonga has been back among the goals for Forest
But since his return he has looked as though he had never been away, already finding the net this season with a brace against Burton Albion last weekend.
And with rumours suggesting that Norwich manager Alex Neil is thought to be keen on the forward among others – the Daily Mail claiming last month that Forest turned down a £7 million offer from the Canaries – Reds fans have reacted nervously to the news of their star forward’s unexplained absence from the matchday squad.
Fans will be hoping it is just to rest their key man, rather than the more worrying prospect of selling a player who is held in such high regard…
