However, the 50-year-old has opted to stay with their Championship rivals after holding talks with Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi, and Sky Sports is reporting that both parties had their reasons for the break down.
The news that Clough will not be the man to come in at the City Ground has received an interesting response on social media, with many Forest fans understanding why their former striker has come to the decision he has made.

Meanwhile, some supporters seem to be fairly pleased that he will not be returning. He has endured some tough times during his managerial career.
While he will rightfully go down in Burton folklore for the job he has done there, he struggled with Derby previously, and there is always a danger that former heroes can taint their reputation with subsequent management stints.
But many who are pleased that Clough will not be coming back have expressed that they do not have doubts about his ability but rather fear that the presence of the current hierarchy could prove detrimental to his chances of success.
