The striker has rejected the chance to play at the African Cup of Nations with DR Congo.

Once again Nottingham Forest have had to make do without their main striker for most of the current Championship season.

Britt Assombalonga continues to be injury-prone as he continues to come back from a career-threatening knee injury.

He is set to return for the Huddersfield Town game on Boxing Day and will be hoping to get on the score-sheet – after some criticism online from Forest fans.

Much of that criticism however stemmed from his apparent decision to head to the African Cup of Nations with DR Congo in January.

Earlier in the season he confirmed his plans to finally accept a call-up for the DR Congo national team, but could not make his debut in November because of paperwork issues.

His apparent decision to play in the competition, despite his lack of action for Forest, left many fans at the club frustrated – many making him known of the fact on Twitter.

Now he has confirmed that he will not be travelling to the tournament, as he works on his fitness and getting back to playing football on a regular basis at the City Ground.

When he has played he has been lethal in the Championship this season, with six goals from nine appearances, so hopefully he can stay fit for the time being.

Here is some of the best reaction from Twitter to this good news for Forest…
