While Nottingham Forest’s play-off hopes may have faded in recent weeks, a couple of tweaks in the January transfer window could have Mark Warburton’s side gunning for the top six once more. But which players could arrive at the City Ground this winter? HITC Sport spoke to three knowledgeable Reds fans to find out…

What do you think Forest’s budget will be?

I’d guess at around £3 million.

In what positions do they need to strengthen?

A new goalkeeper and left-back would be my suggestions.

Who would be your dream January signing?

[West Ham’s on-loan goalkeeper] Joe Hart – he’s endured a swift fall from grace of late.

Who would be a realistic January signing?

Adam Federici, if fit again, or another goalkeeper, Adam Bogdan.

Which players do you expect Forest to sign in January?

I’m unsure what to expect to be honest.

What do you think Forest’s budget will be?

Probably about £3 million max – but even that may be stretching it a bit. I still think there’s some finance left over from the [Britt] Assombalonga to Middlesbrough deal in the summer though, so hopefully we can make that count.

In what positions do they need to strengthen?

Goalkeeper, centre-back, midfielder and striker. Just the whole spine that we need!

Who would be your dream January signing?

I’d love us to re-sign [Hull City’s] Michael Dawson. A tough, ball playing defender who can be trusted is just what’s missing at the moment – and Dawson would be an excellent mentor for Joe Worrall, too.

Who would be a realistic January signing?

We seem to be very keen on Brondby goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow, and given his young age and how important it is that we get a keeper in, I wouldn’t be surprised if we pulled out all the stops with this one.

Which players do you expect Forest to sign in January?

I know Mark Warburton wants at least three in, but realistically, I think we’ll get a keeper (probably Ronnow) and a centre-back (some hot prospect on loan).

Former England football player, Stuart Pearce speaks during day two of Soccerex Asia on December 5, 2016 in Doha, Qatar.

What do you think Forest’s budget will be?

Probably a maximum of £5 million.

In what positions do they need to strengthen?

We are desperate for defenders all across the back four and probably a goalkeeper – as much as I like Jordan Smith.

Who would be your dream January signing?

[West Ham first team coach] Stuart Pearce reincarnated.

Who would be a realistic January signing?

Frederick Ronnow, a goalkeeper we chased in the summer.

Which players do you expect Forest to sign in January?

Jake Clarke-Salter on loan from Chelsea has been linked, Marcus Bettinelli from Fulham perhaps, or even revisit the Ronnow deal.
