A sizeable portion of Nottingham Forest fans have been less than sympathetic on Twitter towards Dorus de Vries after the goalkeeper endured a nightmare Champions League debut.

De Vries had left the Championship outfit for Celtic in the summer, and explained to the Daily Record shortly after his switch that playing in Europe was one of the things that he was most looking forward to.

And having taken advantage of Craig Gordon’s indifferent form at the start of the new season, it was the 35-year-old who was chosen between the sticks for the Hoops’ group-stage opener against Barcelona.

However, it turned into a night to forget for Brendan Rodgers’ men in the Nou Camp as they were picked apart by Luis Enrique’s side, leaving de Vries to pick the ball out of his net on seven occasions.

And perhaps unsurprisingly, his disappointing evening has not gone unnoticed by fans of his former club who have taken to social media in light of his previous comments about playing in the competition.

However, some Forest supporters were pleased to see their former Player of the Year chosen to come up against the La Liga side.
