Nottingham Forest could soon unite a truly thrilling duo – Our View

Nottingham Forest have had something of a decent start to their Premier League campaign.

One win, one draw, one loss is a solid, if unspectacular, start from the Tricky Trees, but if there was one area to highlight for improvement it would be in the attack.

The Reds have scored just two goals in three games, and it’s fair to say that their strike against West Ham United was rather unfortunate as Taiwo Awoniyi netted with his knee – a strike the Nigerian didn’t appear to know too much about.

There has been some creativity within this team – particularly with Neco Williams down the right, but Forest need more creative outlets, and luckily, help seems to be on the way.

In Steve Cooper’s 5-2-1-2, Forest need creativity from their wing-backs – Djed Spence was utterly fantastic in this regard last season as an all-action wing-back who beat defenders for pace, and a player in that mould could soon be rocking up to the City Ground to play on the left.

Of course, we’re talking about Sergio Reguilon.

The Tottenham left-footer is absolutely electric down the wing, he’s a fantastic crosser of the ball, and while he does have some defensive deficiencies, playing in a back-five should mask a lot of those issues.

Reguilon could cause all sorts of problems going forward if he joins Forest. He’s fantastic at pressing high, and winning the ball high up the pitch will create countless chances for the Tricky Trees if he’s utilised in the right way – he averaged 1.4 key passes per 90 for Spurs last season.

Add in Neco Williams’ ability to be a playmaker from the right flank, and Forest would have one of the most thrilling wing-back pairings in the Premier League – combining pace down the left with incredible delivery from deep and an eye for a pass down the right.

Yes, they may get caught out defensively from time to time, but Forest need to start scoring goals, and putting Reguilon and Williams in the wide areas would certainly give them a new and exciting dynamic going forward.

Reguilon and Williams may not be the next Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but they’ll cause all sorts of problems for opposition defences if Forest get Reguilon through the door.
