The Blackburn Rovers winger, coupled with Hibernian star Jason Cummings, has shown a clear shift in transfer policy from last season.

With it looking likely that Nottingham Forest are on the verge of signing Blackburn Rovers winger Connor Mahoney, as reported by the Lancashire Telegraph, it seems clear now that the Reds’ transfer policy has completely changed.

Last summer, Forest signed 11 players in total – eight as permanent deals, three on loan – but towards the end of the season, it was obvious there was only hope for four of those at a push in Mustapha Carayol, Armand Traore, Stephen Henderson, and maybe Thomas Lam.

The scattergun approach just simply didn’t work, with the rest of the players either not settling, being too inconsistent, simply just not good enough in some cases, or quickly cast aside when it became clear they wouldn’t be needed.

This summer however, and the impetus under Mark Warburton has changed completely, with Forest seemingly targeting young players with bags of potential in a bid to watch them grow and flourish at The City Ground, and hopefully take the club back up the league table.

Hibernian striker Jason Cummings is also on the verge of signing for the Reds, as reports the Scottish Sun, with the 21-year-old scoring 69 goals in his last three years with the Edinburgh club, meaning he arrives on Trentside with huge potential.

As for Mahoney, the young winger – who claimed three assists last year – has drawn comparisons with Liverpool man Adam Lallana due to his playing style, and seems like he could be a top prospect for the years to come.

The shift is bound to go down well with Forest fans, many of whom felt let down after it became clear that last summer’s activity was largely a waste of time, and Warburton will be hoping that the new recruits – if signed – can adapt quickly and help the club push on.
