Nottingham Forest look to have pulled off a great deal for Barrie McKay.

Speaking to Nottingham Forest’s website, Mark Warburton has hailed the “outstanding” quality of new signing Barrie McKay.

The former Rangers man, a £500k signing this summer, marked his Nottingham Forest debut in style by scoring the winner in Friday’s 1-0 victory at home to Millwall.

Barrie McKay of Rangers runs with the ball during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It was the perfect way in which to endear himself to the Reds’ fanbase and, at the moment, it seems like the ex-Gers manager has pulled off something of a bargain.

Warburton knows all about the Scotland international, having managed him at the Ibrox club for close to two years, and the 55-year-old can’t speak highly enough about him.

He told Nottingham Forest’s official website: “Barrie is a real talent. My thoughts on him are very clear.

“I think he is an outstanding player who can be anything he wants to be. He has got ability, he is technical, quick and relaxed in possession and he is clever.”

Things look promising for Warburton’s side this season.

In addition to McKay, the former Brentford boss has also pulled off deals for Daryl Murphy and Kieran Dowell – on loan from Everton – and the latter also looked a class act on Friday.

Forest barely retained their Championship status last season and Warburton, who only took the job in March, will be determined to lead them well up the table this time around.

And they’ve certainly made a good start.
