The young midfielder excelled with Notts County on loan last season and has just signed a three-year deal with Forest.

Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton has pledged to give young midfielder Jorge Grant a chance in the first team with the hope that the 22-year-old takes it, having been very impressed with Grant’s exploits on loan at Notts County, as reported by Forest’s official site.

Grant scored six in 17 for the other club in Nottingham as County successfully pulled away from a relegation battle in League Two, and signed a three-year contract upon his return to The City Ground, which was officially announced yesterday, also reported by the club’s official website.

Expectations for Grant at Forest are quite high, but it seemed that everyone agreed that the 22-year-old needed a loan spell to gain some vital experience, and since he’s done that, it seems like he’s returning to the club as a significantly better player.

It would appear that Warburton agrees, and speaking about Grant’s new deal, the former Rangers boss highlighted that he’d gone out to prove his worth and had done so, and is impressed with the midfielder’s ambition to break into the first team ahead of pre-season.

“I am looking forward to working with him and watching how he takes his chance,” Warburton said to the club’s official site. “He is a young player who has gone out on loan to develop and prove a point and he has done that.

“He has gone out, scored goals and impressed the loan club and comes back to his parent club to take the next step in his career.

“He wants to break into the squad, force his way into the plans and I am delighted with the way he adapted to that loan. He has gone out on loan for a reason and has responded well to it. Well done to him and now we are looking forward to working with him in pre-season.”

Grant burst onto the scene at Forest by scoring on his first start for the club in a 3-1 defeat away at Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup, before Spurs went through the gears and their class paid off.

Forest will be hoping for a much better season following their dismal 2016/17 campaign, which saw the Reds finish in 21st place – only surviving in the Championship on goal difference, at the expense of Blackburn Rovers.
