Nottingham Forest boss Phillipe Montanier told the club’s website he was impressed with Nicklas Bendtner’s contribution in the draw with Rotherham.

Bendtner came off the bench for the final 31 minutes of their entertaining 2-2 draw with Rotherham United.

He had three shots at goal but none of them landed on target, and Montanier says the striker is just getting warmed up.

The former Arsenal forward signed as a free agent earlier this month, and could be in contention to start this coming weekend, while the EFL Cup game against his former club will also be on his mind.

Montanier said: “I thought Nicklas Bendtner did well and I know he’ll get even better as he gets more minutes.

“He looked more comfortable as the game went on tonight and we know that he will continue to improve in the next few weeks.”

Another striker working his way back to fitness is star man Britt Assombalonga.

Montanier spoke positively about his progress, but said he will not be rushed, commenting: “Britt Assombalonga is returning from his injury but he needs more training sessions to be fit to play.”

Assombalonga has played in three games this season, scoring three goals from five total shots at goal, and his return is understandably keenly anticipated.

Yet with Vellios scoring and Bendtner available, after Assombalonga’s troubled injury history, they are right not to take any chances rather than rush him back.
