Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has explained to BBC Radio Nottingham why he left Michael Hefele out of the squad against Middlesbrough.

Hefele was not part of the Forest squad that took on Middlesbrough away from home at the Riverside Stadium in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The 28-year-old central defender joined the Reds from Premier League club Huddersfield Town in the summer transfer window.

The German has played in six Championship matches for Forest, and manager Karanka has said that the defender is tired.

Pushing for promotion

Forest got the better of Middlesbrough 2-0 away from home at the Riverside Stadium, thanks to goals from Joe Lolley and Lewis Grabban.

The win against Boro means that Forest are now fifth in the Championship table with 19 points from 12 matches, six points behind leaders Sheffield United.

The Reds have one of the strongest teams in the Championship, and they are very much in the running for automatic promotion to the Premier League.
