Nottingham Forest have made a club-record £25 million bid for Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos, according to Record, with a deal for Atalanta’s Remo Freuler also progressing.
A penny for Ryan Yates’ thoughts. Or Sam Surridge, Scott McKenna and Jack Colback, for that matter.
Because, despite spending £70 million on 12 new signings since breaking Huddersfield hearts in May’s play-off final, Nottingham Forest’s extensive summer overhaul is not finished yet. And, with the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Orel Mangala and Moussa Niakhate now calling the City Ground home, you have to wonder what the players who performed so dutifully under Steve Cooper last season make of all this.
Forest turn to Goncalo Ramos and Remo Freuler
With just over three weeks of the window remaining, Nottingham Forest could still take their summer spend over the £100 million mark.
According to Record, the two-time European champions have made a £25 million bid for Portugal U21 international Goncalo Ramos. If Benfica were to accept, this would see Ramos replace fellow forward Taiwo Awoniyi as the most expensive acquisition in Forest’s history.

A highly intelligent attacker, likened to Thomas Muller due to his ‘space-invading’ style, Ramos scored a stunning Champions League goal against Liverpool last term and kicked off the new campaign with a hat-trick against Midtjylland this week.
Per Tuttomercatoweb, Nottingham Forest are also closing in on Atalanta’s Remo Freuler. The East Midlands outfit have offered £6 million, with the 30-year-old keen on a Premier League switch.
Freuler, who has nearly 50 caps for the Switzerland national team, is a stylish central midfielder by trade. But he can also play out wide on the left if required. His versatility would come in very handy, particularly if Cooper plans to stick with a 3-5-2 system.
Freuler, back in 2020, was even dubbed ‘Europe’s most underrated player’ by a BBC article.
“Remo isn’t especially athletic, but he is the brains of Atalanta,” explains Italian reporter Fabrizio Carcano.
“He covers everyone, recovers balls, tackles, and – most importantly – builds play from behind. His pass completion ratio is very high. He is the conductor of the orchestra.”
