Bournemouth look to have beaten Nottingham Forest to Connor Mahoney but Rangers winger Barrie McKay isn’t a bad alternative.
As recently as the January transfer window, the Daily Record reported that Rangers would demand £6 million if RB Leipzig aimed to add another highly-rated youngster to their growing collection.
Now, however, The Scotsman claim that the Ibrox giants could let Barrie McKay leave for as little as £750,000. When you consider he is just 22, and is one of the most gifted talents to make his name at Rangers for many a year, Nottingham Forest could pull off a major coup if they get the deal over the line.
Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton is a big fan of Rangers winger Barrie McKay
Forest manager Mark Warburton got the best out of McKay until his departure from Ibrox in February but predecessor Pedro Caixinha appears far less impressed, dropping him for crucial league and cup clashes with Old Firm rivals Celtic.
And the report adds that Forest have already made a tentative bid, though just below Rangers’ surprisingly low valuation.
Though they face a challenge with The Scottish Sun claiming that Cardiff City, who have eyed up a number of Scottish talents this summer, are also interested.
Astute alternative
Yet, it appears that Forest are making a smart decision to intensify their pursuit. According to the Daily Mail, Bournemouth appear to have swooped in and beaten them to the signature of winger Conor Mahoney.
The highly-rated 20-year-old, whose contract at recently relegated Blackburn Rovers has now expired, had been expected to put pen to paper at the City Ground but the lure of the Premier League has proved too much to turn down.
Connor Mahoney enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season last term
Therefore, it makes perfect sense for Forest to act quickly and turn their attention to McKay instead, another talented, youthful winger whose value could skyrocket after one or two impressive campaigns.
