Rafa Benitez is in Everton colours and it’s going to take some getting used for Liverpool fans.
It has been a number of weeks since Everton appointed Benitez as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement, but on Wednesday, he held his first press conference.
Given his Liverpool past, it’s understandable that he was going to be asked about his days on the other side of Merseyside now that he is rocking Everton colours.
Benitez told Sky Sports that Liverpool fans have ‘accepted’ him coming back to the Premier League with Everton, but ‘everyone will have their opinions’ on the matter.
In regards to his ‘small club’ comments on Everton, he stated that it ‘depends’ on the context because he was ‘fighting’ for Liverpool back then and now he’s going to ‘fight’ for the Toffees.
Liverpool supporters have provided a mixed reaction to Benitez’s comments and his first appearance at his Everton press conference.
Given all the noise and talk that has surrounded his appointment, it seems as though he needs a fast start and he will want his football to do his talking.
A man of Benitez’s qualities can no doubt guide a club like Everton to Europe.
If he does that, and possibly adds a trophy to their cabinet, then his Liverpool days will be quickly forgotten about.
