Northern Ireland boss Ian Baraclough has provided an encouraging fitness update on Newcastle United defender Jamal Lewis in the Northern Echo.
Lewis is set to miss Northern Ireland’s game against Norway later this evening, which has sparked concerns about his availability ahead of the weekend.
But the full-back could yet feature for Newcastle, as Baraclough seems very relaxed over the injury problem.
“The only one who isn’t travelling is Jamal Lewis,” said Northern Ireland boss Ian Baraclough.
“He’s gone to have a scan on his ongoing Achilles niggle, but it’s nothing to worry about. It’s improving.
“He might not be able to play the two games so quickly, so it’s something I felt Newcastle had in mind for the player anyway.”

If Lewis is available then it will be a big boost to Steve Bruce’s side, as he has made a fine start to life at St. James’ Park.
Lewis has quickly become Newcastle’s first choice at left-back, with his attacking displays catching the eyes.
The former Norwich City defender has shown great pace going forward, but also looked reliable defensively in his first few appearances in the black and white strips.
Newcastle are next in action on Saturday evening, when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
