Graeme Souness has given his thumbs up to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool securing the transfer of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Liverpool legend stated that how the team performs next season is ‘based on what midfield players are playing’, as he told talkSPORT.
Well, after finishing in the Europa League places last season, there might be wholesale changes in the middle of the park for Klopp, especially if Jordan Henderson and Fabinho head to Saudi Arabia.
James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have already been booted out after their contracts expired, with Alexis Mac Allister coming in, alongside Dominik Szoboszlai.
Only £35 million was paid for the 2022 World Cup winner, which was some going and a great piece of business for the Reds given that Declan Rice has just been sold to Arsenal for over £100 million.
Souness shared his thoughts on that Mac Allister deal and how he thinks Liverpool will sign another midfielder before the summer transfer window slams shut.

“I think Liverpool’s hopes are based on what midfield players they have playing for them next year,” said Souness.
“I like Mac Allister. There is nothing to dislike about him. He is a workaholic. What is he 23? He chips in with goals. He creates goals. Nothing to dislike about him.
“In fact, with that name, he really should be playing for Scotland and not Argentina. Mac Allister is as Scottish as it comes.
“They needed to replace the midfield last year. A younger, more vibrant and more creative midfield – I don’t think they are finished with buying midfield players. I think they will go for another midfield player.”

Mac Allister is one of the best buys
When the 2023 summer window officially closes, Mac Allister will go down as one of the purchases of the summer and someone who will thrive at Anfield next season.
Everyone saw what he was about for Brighton, but this is a whole different ball game because he has now entered a much bigger pond.
The all-action midfielder also suits what Klopp likes in a player and with Henderson out of the door, you can bet your bottom dollar that Mac Allister ensures that energy and aggression stays at the club.
