Martin Keown has said on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:53pm, August 20, 2022) that he was wrong about Arsenal summer transfer signing Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The Arsenal legend has said that he had doubts over the defensive capability of Zinchenko when he moved to the Gunners from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
Keown was impressed by the 25-year-old during Arsenal’s 3-0 win against Bournemouth away from home at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Ukraine international started the match at left-back, but he did move into midfield during occasions.
Martin Keown on Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko
Keown said about Zinchenko on Match of the Day on BBC One (10:53pm, August 20, 2022): “Zinchenko, absolute class. He really is.
“It’s another level now for these young players to aspire to, what he does on the left-hand side of that pitch.
“I was a bit worried about him when he first came defensively, he didn’t get much pre-season, but look at how assured he is there, that is pure class. Nothing ruffles him.”

Superb signing
In our opinion, Oleksandr Zinchenko has been a superb signing for Arsenal in the summer transfer window and has hit the ground running.
The Ukrainian did well when he was at Manchester City, and he seems to have brought that form to Arsenal.
The 25-year-old is playing as a left-back at the moment, but when Kieran Tierney starts playing in defence, then we are likely to see Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta push Zinchenko into midfield.
For Arsenal to finish in the Premier League top four this season as well as make an impact in the UEFA Europa League, Zinchenko will have to be on top of his game throughout.
