Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce has been previewing this weekend’s Merseyside derby and he’s been discussing Everton’s Amadou Onana.
The midfielder has been impressive this season, catching the eyes of the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks, and Allardyce has reserved some special praise for the Belgian.
Big Sam says that Everton currently don’t have any players who would get into the Liverpool team, but he did suggest that by the time next season rolls around, Onana could be good enough for Liverpool.

Onana Liverpool calibre
Allardyce discussed the Everton star.
“Would any Everton players get in the Liverpool team currently?” Allardyce was asked.
“No, but I like the look of that new lad in midfield though, Onana, it’s too early though, no, not yet it’s too early, ask me next season,” Allardyce replied.
Good enough now
Allardyce says that Onana may be good enough for Liverpool by the time next season rolls around, but we’d go as far as to say that he’s at that level right now.
Can you genuinely look at Liverpool’s current midfield and say that it wouldn’t be improved by a player like Onana? The Everton star ran Arsenal ragged last week, while the Reds’ central players have struggled to get a foothold in any game this season.
Everton have been in the Reds’ shadow for a little while now, but in the shape of Onana, they may actually have the best midfielder on Merseyside at this moment in time.
Onana could very well be the difference maker in the Merseyside derby.
