Ian Wright has told Wrighty’s House Podcast that Willian played ‘too many negative passes’ during Arsenal’s defeat to Aston Villa before the international break.
The popular TV pundit stated in a blunt manner that it’s ‘not what we need’ because he is ‘not creating’ and playing in a negative way.
Willian moved to Arsenal in the summer when he signed on a free transfer after leaving London rivals, Chelsea.
Whilst some have questioned the Willian signing, Wright shared that he has ‘no problem’ with Mikel Arteta bringing him to the club, but he did question the manner in which he’s playing.
“I don’t have a problem with the Willian signing,” said Wright. “I just thought during the game there were too many negative passes. Too many backward passes.
“When we look at his map. That’s not what we need. And that’s not creating.”
On the opening day of the season, Arsenal’s new £190k-a-week star [Spotrac] shone away at Fulham and it did get fans excited.
Any time a player moves across the pond to another rival, it is always going to make headlines, and just like David Luiz the season before, this move also received its fair share of heat from both sides.
But since then, Willian has looked off-colour with and without the ball, he isn’t taking opposition players on, his delivery has been poor, both from open play and set-piece situations.
