Newcastle United misfit Yoshinori Muto won’t be making a return to Bundesliga outfit Mainz this summer, sporting director Rouven Schroder has told Fussball News.
With Callum Wilson arriving from Bournemouth and giving Steve Bruce the proven Premier League striker he has been crying out for, the seldom-seen Japan international has fallen even further down the pecking order.
£9 million Muto made only eight appearances in the English top flight last season.
And his most recent goal came against a Manchester United side managed by Jose Mourinho and containing Marouane Fellaini and Alexis Sanchez in October 2018.
The Mail reports Newcastle are trying to find a club willing to take Muto off their hands – but a return to the Opel Arena isn’t on the cards.
“Muto has a great personality,” says Schroder.
“However, Yoshi isn’t under consideration. That has nothing to do with his profile but with the current quality of our squad!”

Schroder’s comments could be viewed as a suggestion Jean-Philippe Mateta and Robin Quaison, who have been linked with Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, are going nowhere in this transfer window.
Muto scored 20 goals in 65 Bundesliga games in his three years at Mainz.
