Speaking to Liverpool’s official club website, Jurgen Klopp delivered some bad news about Calvin Ramsay.

The Scottish full-back signed for the Reds last month from Aberdeen, but sadly, he’s suffered an early setback in his Liverpool career.

Indeed, according to Klopp. The full-back has picked up an injury and he’s yet to actually train with the first-team.

Klopp says that Ramsey’s injury could have been rather serious in the future if it hadn’t been addressed now, but he doesn’t think he’ll be sidelined for too long.

What’s been said?

Klopp spoke about Ramsay and his injury.

“Unfortunately, Calvin is now not training with us in the moment, he has a little injury. Nobody knew, we found it when he did his medical check. Until today he has no problems but the medical department tells us if we don’t take care for that now, he will have a problem in the future,” Klopp said.

“So, when you are that young then of course he has a long career ahead of him, so we are very responsible in these moments, so he didn’t train yet with the team but is doing a lot of fitness work. So, it will not take too long I think.”

“So I didn’t see him yet in training but everything we saw about him, we heard about him, I heard from him: a fantastic boy. And what a player he is, what he did for Aberdeen last year, absolutely exceptional.”

Better safe than sorry

It’s obviously a blow to hear that Ramsay is already injured after arriving at Liverpool, but, as Klopp said, this injury could have gotten worse if it wasn’t addressed now.

Yes, it’s frustrating to hear that he hasn’t trained yet, but in these situations, you’re better to be safe than sorry.

At his age, Ramsay has so many years ahead of him and a few weeks on the sidelines now won’t matter, but if this injury hadn’t been picked up, his entire career could have been affected.

Fingers crossed the defender will be fit and ready for the start of the season.
