Andy Townsend has said on talkSPORT (5:26pm, March 20, 2023) that Tottenham Hotspur should not hire Mauricio Pochettino as a potential replacement for Antonio Conte.
The former Chelsea player has said it is not always a good idea for managers to go back to their old clubs.
The talkSPORT pundit has said that he is “not totally convinced” that Pochettino would be the best manager for Tottenham at this moment in time.
The Telegraph have reported that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy plans to get rid of Conte this week after his extraordinary outburst this past weekend.
The Mirror have reported that Tottenham are looking at former Spurs boss Pochettino as a potential replacement for Conte.
Andy Townsend on Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur rumour
Townsend said: “I have never quite got the notion of managers that have had a time at the club and coming back.
“Poch went very close with a very good Tottenham team, he did. I am not totally convinced.”

HITC Verdict: Good managerial appointment for Spurs
In our view, Mauricio Pochettino, 51, would be a good managerial appointment for Tottenham Hotspur.
As Andy Townsend has noted, the Argentine did well during his first spell at Tottenham.
Spurs regularly finished in the Premier League top four, reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2019, and challenged for the title on occasions.
Players such as Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris know Pochettino well, and the Argentine would be able to just seamlessly settle back into life at Spurs.
Meanwhile, Il Romanista have reported that midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu will leave Inter Milan at the end of the season, with Tottenham and Leeds United the two likeliest destinations for the 29-year-old Turkey international attacking midfielder.
