Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp has been discussing Cody Gakpo after the Dutch forward signed from PSV.
The attacker is the Reds’ newest signing and the excitement to see his debut is palpable.
It was reported by The Times prior to his arrival that he would be eligible to make his debut against Brentford, but according to Klopp that isn’t the case.
Indeed, the German says that due to the paperwork that has to be done it’s unlikely that he’ll play against the Bees, stating that a debut against Wolves is more likely.

Gakpo won’t play next week
The Liverpool gaffer gave an update on Gakpo.
“What I heard now, we are obviously very early, which is good, but there might be a chance for Brentford – but I think not really, to be honest. Because obviously the first of January is a Bank Holiday and then all the papers, which we don’t have to sign but some other people, will have to be signed on the 2nd until lunchtime. I’m not too positive that that will happen but we will not rush it anyway. So, probably Wolves,” Klopp said.
Worth the wait
Liverpool fans may have to wait to see their new signing, but he should be worth the wait.
The striker has been unbelievable over the past 18 months in the Eredivisie, and if he keeps up that form in the Premier League he will be an absolute superstar for the Reds.
We’ve seen players come from the Dutch league and light up the English game in the past – Liverpool fans know that better than anyone after signing Luis Suarez, and based on the numbers Gakpo was putting up in his home country, he could be one of the Premier League’s top attackers.
