Southampton fans have remained upbeat despite news emerging that Danny Ings is set to miss over a month of action after a knee injury.
The striker requires surgery after picking up a problem against Aston Villa on Saturday.
His initial prognosis wasn’t too bad but, after attempting to train yesterday, it has been decided that he needs an operation.
Southampton’s manager was quick to comment on the situation.
“The scan was not too bad, he started running yesterday and the knee was swollen afterwards,” Ralph Hasenhuttl said.
“He had pain and it was a situation where he immediately stopped.
“We decided to have another look and it was decided to have the operation now.”
Ings will undoubtedly be missed by the Saints in the coming weeks.
He scored 21 goals last season, making him the second-highest scorer in the division.
The striker looked set to be in the Golden Boot race again this season, netting five goals in his first seven league games.
However, despite losing their star man for a number of weeks, Southampton fans are fairly upbeat about the situation.
The south-coast outfit have had a solid start to the season, so a relegation battle is not an immediate threat and, with Ings’ history of knee problems, supporters were pleased to hear that this was a more minor issue.
The fact that the international break is just around the corner also gave supporters some solace, as Ings won’t miss that many games with the Premier League taking a short break in early November.
