Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a transfer for Victor Osimhen this month.

According to Tutto Napoli on March 18, Spurs are interested in signing the Italy-based hitman.

The 23-year-old is enjoying a brilliant season for the Serie A outfit, netting 15 goals across all competitions.

For years Tottenham have needed a reliable plan-b option to Harry Kane and whether it’s been Vincent Janssen, Fernando Llorente or Carlos Vinicius, the Lilywhites have never really had one.

However, one journalist in Italy has intimated that the North Londoners could have some stiff – and familiar – rivals in the hunt for Osimhen’s signature.

Raffaele Auriema told Radio Marte – as translated by Sports Witness – that the Nigeria international has ‘important Premier League clubs’ chasing him and that Napoli will happily sell if his valuation – reportedly £84 million – is met.

He said: “If Osimhen continues to play like this, scoring a lot until the end of the season, there are some important Premier League clubs who need a centre forward, and, unfortunately, will not think twice about offering Aurelio De Laurentiis everything that the president will ask, as figures, to deprive himself of the Nigerian.”

Better than Vlahovic?

What a potential signing for Tottenham Hotspur this could be.

The Lilywhites were also keen on Dusan Vlahovic in January, though he wound up joining Juventus instead.

However, at least one former player rates Osimhen higher than the former Fiorentina superstar.

According to Serie A legend Alessandro Altobelli, the Napoli hitman is a stronger player, claiming last week: “Osimhen is stronger than (Dusan) Vlahovic. In this moment, he is enjoying great growth. And, for me, he is better than Vlahovic.”

Whether that’s accurate or not remains to be seen, because Vlahovic has definitely been more prolific in Italy than Osimhen this season.

But the Premier League is different and who knows, perhaps Osimhen really could take English football by storm – and Tottenham will be hoping to give him that canvas.
