Jurgen Klopp has refused to defend Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson after his red card against Tottenham Hotspur tonight.
Spurs held the Premier League title-challenging Reds to a 2-2 draw in North London.
There was no shortage of talking points after Liverpool had Robertson sent off in the final quarter for a rash challenge.
Thing is, the Scot was earlier on the receiving end of much worse tackle by Tottenham marksman Harry Kane, who only earned a booking.
And although the Liverpool manager has conceded that Robertson’s foul was ‘not the smartest’, he claims Kane ‘definitely’ should’ve gone earlier in the game.
He told Sky Sports: “You can give Robbo a red card. It is not the smartest challenge but that is definitely a red card.
“No doubt about it. His leg was in the air, it was pure coincidence. Harry cannot judge it. If Robbo’s leg is on the ground it is a broken leg.”
Robertson, an £8 million signning in 2017, was in the thick of everything.
It was alao the former Hull City defender who fired Liverpool into a 2-1 lead, only short for Son Heung-min to cancel it shortly before the red card.
The German manager cut a furious figure at various points throughout the game.
And afterwards, he could be heard telling referee Paul Tierney – who booked him in the first half – that he ‘never played football’ in an on-the-pitch confrontation.
Liverpool go into Christmas second in the Premier League table, three points behind Manchester City at the summit.
