Speaking on his podcast and on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been speaking about some of Tottenham’s summer transfer plans.

Spurs should be set for a big summer. After all, Antonio Conte probably won’t let them get away with not spending big, but according to Gold, the north London outfit could be rather savvy in the market.

Indeed, the journalist says that Spurs may well look at a number of free transfers and loans with options to buy at the end of the season.

What’s been said?

Gold shared what he knows.

“People are going to expect more transfers. I think they’ll look at more free transfers as well. I know that’s not the sexy thing to do and it won’t excite people, but hey, if it’s Paulo Dyabala everyone will change their mind. Paratici likes to look at those free transfers,” Gold said on his podcast.

The journalist echoed a similar sentiment on his YouTube channel.

“Spurs know they need more, I would say that Paratici will look at free transfers as well and he will look at more loans to buy, loans to but have probably been the biggest successes at Spurs. Gollini aside, you have Kulusevski and Romero, brilliant signings, look at Bentancur, he’s a brilliant signing,” Gold said.

Good time to do it

If you’re going to be looking at the free transfer market, then there probably hasn’t been a better summer to do it.

Just look at some of the names who could be leaving for free in the summer. Paul Pogba, Paulo Dybala, Antonio Rudiger, Isco, Andreas Christensen and Sam Johnstone are just a few.

Spurs have been linked with a few of the above names, and if they manage to sign any of those players for £0, they will have done some good business.

Free transfers may not be the most headline-grabbing, but they can be very smart signings.
