Si Ferry has weighed in on the current crisis at Celtic and claimed that he doesn’t believe Scott Brown isn’t the same midfield presence he once was.
The Hoops were thrashed 4-1 by Sparta Prague in the Europa League last night.
As a result, Neil Lennon’s side only have one point from a possible 12 in that competition and they aren’t faring much better domestically.
Celtic are 11 points behind top-of-the-table Rangers – who have played two games more – and their 10-in-a-row bid looks to be in serious jeopardy.
Brown, a £4.4 million signing in 2007 [The Guardian], has been a huge member of the Celtic squad that has won the Premiership title every single year since 2012.
But The Open Goal host, speaking on Go Radio, does not believe that the 35-year-old is as influential this time around as he used to be.
He said: “Scott Brown he’s been a mainstay in that team, we know how important he is but everyone knows he’s not been the same player this year.”
It has to be said that Brown has faced this allegation of decline more times than he probably cares to remember.
And each and everytime he manages to leave his critics with egg on their face.
But there might be some validity to it on this occasion because, at 35, he is going to slow down eventually and time will tell whether he is genuinely on a downward spiral or simply struggling for form, like every one of his team-mates.
