O’Hara claims declining Spurs ace with ‘so much ability’ should be playing like PL legend

Jamie O’Hara told talkSPORT Breakfast (15/09/20 at 9:15 am) that Tottenham’s declining midfielder Dele Alli ‘should be’ playing like Premier League legend Frank Lampard.

For two seasons now, Alli has found life tough at Tottenham and O’Hara thinks he’s just simply ‘not the same player’ anymore.

When Alli first burst onto the scene as a baby-faced teenager in 2015, he had a knack of making late runs into the box and scoring vital goals.

Whether Alli is banging in the goals or not, it’s harsh comparing him to a player like Lampard, but O’Hara thinks that’s the player with ‘so much ability’ he should be playing like.

“I look at Dele Alli and I think he’s got so much ability,” O’Hara told talkSPORT. “For me, he should be like Lampard. He gets in the box and makes runs off the back.

“Lampard wasn’t blessed with Joe Cole’s ability to be a number 10. But Lampard always worked hard. He always pressed. He was everywhere. He would score goals.

“I look at Dele Alli now and think he’s just not the same player.”

Alli’s poor form in front of goal started during the latter stages of Mauricio Pochettino’s time in North London and has filtered its way into Jose Mourinho’s so far stuttering reign.

The Englishmen did initially start off brightly under Mourinho and it seemed that goal-scoring spark was returning to his game.

But it has since gone towards a direction that has seen him being pulled off by his manager at half-time on the opening day of the Premier League season.
